Useful Phrasal Verbs To Use When Moving Out
Move AwayYou can use this phrasal verb when talking about someone changing house, city or country with their entire household. Michael was one of my very best friends until he moved away when we were in fifth grade.
Move Into (some place)“To move into” is a phrasal verb that refers to the relocation of someone’s belongings in a new place. I heard Janet and Sarah are moving into a house together. I hope I can visit them soon.
Sort Out (something)The phrasal verb “to sort out” has several meanings. When talking about moving out, you can use it to express the action of organizing your things in your new location. Lucy sorted out all her wardrobe in just three boxes when moving out. I could never be so organized!
Get Rid Of (something)This expression has many meanings as well. In our context, you can use it to talk about things that you do not need anymore and you want to donate or throw away. Vanessa wanted to get rid of her old car, so she gave it to her younger sister.
Give AwayThis verb expresses the same idea of the verb “donate”. You can use it when you are giving  something you own to someone else for free. The local school is relocating the library. I heard they are giving away some books to the charity shops in town.
Look For“To look for” generally expressed the idea of searching for something you have lost. In the context of moving out, you can use it when you need to find you things in a slightly disorganised environment. I’ve been looking for my favourite red scarf for hours. I think I might have left it in my old apartment.
Hire Out

The verb refers to the act of paying someone to do a certain job. When moving from a place to another, you might need to “hire out” a company or some workers to help you transfer your things.

John hired out his son to help him move his things to their country-house.
Settle IntoOnce all your stuff is in place and you are staying at your new house, you might need some time to “settle into” the new lifestyle. This means that you will need to get used to the habits of the new city/country. It is extremely easy to settle into Lisbon if you love warmer temperature, food and colourful graffiti.
